The Legendary Feud:
Eddie Guerrero vs. Rey Mysterio

At No Way Out (February 20, 2005), Eddie Guerrero and Rey Mysterio defeated The Basham Brothers to become WWE Tag Team Champions. Their partnership soured quickly, leading to a match between them at WrestleMania 21 (April 3, 2005), which Mysterio won in a friendly exhibition.

Following their loss of the tag team titles to MNM, Guerrero attacked Mysterio on the May 5, 2005 edition of SmackDown, igniting a bitter feud. Guerrero's betrayal culminated in a match at Judgment Day (May 22, 2005), where Mysterio won by disqualification due to Guerrero's use of a steel chair.

Eddie Guerrero turning on Rey Mysterio

One month later, Guerrero and Mysterio clashed again on the June 23, 2005 edition of SmackDown. Mysterio secured another win, but Eddie’s unexpected smile during Rey's celebration left fans questioning his next move.

The tension escalated as Guerrero threatened to expose a secret about Mysterio's son, Dominik. Eddie requested a match from Rey to settle the matter. He had stated that if he lost the match, he would keep the secret hidden, but if he won, he would have to reveal it publicly. This ultimatum led to a showdown at The Great American Bash (July 24, 2005), where Mysterio emerged victorious over Guerrero.

However, after losing the match, Guerrero broke his promise. On SmackDown later that week, he publicly revealed that he was Dominik's biological father, going against his earlier commitment to keep the secret.

The revelation sparked a legal battle over Dominik's custody, with Mysterio challenging Guerrero to a Ladder Match at SummerSlam (August 21, 2005).

Nevertheless, Guerrero's wife, Vickie, betrayed him during the match by simply pushing the ladder to prevent her husband from winning, allowing Mysterio to win and retain custody of Dominik.
